PRIVATE STUDY
Student and parent/caregiver attend weekly lessons that follow the school’s quarterly lesson schedule. Private study day/time is arranged through the Registrar and is subject to instructor availability.GROUP CLASSES
Attendance at weekly group classes is mandatory for all Wilmington Branch Suzuki Academy students and is considered an integral part of the Suzuki method, as students learn crucial listening and social skills by interacting in the group environment. Suzuki group classes alternate between repertoire classes and musicianship classes. All groups meet on Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Specific group assignments are determined by each student’s individual development and advancement through the Suzuki literature. STRING ORCHESTRAS & SMALL ENSEMBLES
Learning to play in an ensemble is crucial for all student instrumentalists! As students progress through the Suzuki curriculum, they may participate in the following ensembles in addition to group class. Participation in all ensembles is for the entire academic year and is included in Suzuki Academy tuition.SUZUKI ACADEMY CONCERT STRINGS

Starting September 10
A first orchestra experience for Suzuki Academy students! String players will learn basic skills necessary for playing in an orchestra, including sitting while playing, sharing a music stand with a partner, following a conductor, basic music-reading, taking notes in the music independently, following rehearsal instructions and playing in a group where there are multiple parts. Students must also participate in weekly group classes.

SUZUKI ACADEMY FESTIVAL STRINGS

Starting September 10
Designed as the next step to prepare string players for acceptance into the Delaware Youth Orchestra, this orchestra teaches intermediate ensemble and reading skills. Students must also participate in weekly group classes.
PREREQUISITE: Twinkle and Level 1 or Level 2 Graduation and minimum one year in Concert Strings
DELAWARE YOUTH ORCHESTRA

SUZUKI CLASS FOR NEW PARENTS—PHILOSOPHY OVERVIEWNew Suzuki parents (Music School faculty)

All parents of new Suzuki Academy students are required to attend this introductory class prior to beginning lessons or group classes. Since the Suzuki method is a cooperative experience and the learning process is shared between the teacher, child and parent/caregiver, it is critical that the parent/caregiver understand the basics of the philosophy.
ENROLLMENT: One session; contact the Front Desk to register
TUITION: Included in Suzuki tuition; $45 for others
VIOLIN GROUP CLASS FOR SUZUKI PARENTS—A
Adults 18 years and up (Jessica Hoffman, Elissa Wagman)
Wednesdays, 8:15-9:00 p.m.

Biweekly, starting September 10
Designed for Suzuki parents who want to learn to play along with their children, this optional class for beginners covers the basics of technique and early Suzuki repertoire.
ENROLLMENT: Entire academic year
TUITION: $100 per 8-class semester (biweekly)
VIOLIN GROUP CLASS FOR SUZUKI PARENTS—B

Designed for Suzuki parents who have at least one year of playing experience (not beginners), this optional class helps parents continue to refine their skills and learn additional techniques.

TUITION: $100 per 8-class semester (biweekly)
PRE-SUZUKI MUSIC & MOVEMENT
2½ to 3½ years, with parent/caregiver (Melinda Bowman)

Considering enrolling your child in the Suzuki Academy? Meeting every other week, this group music class establishes a strong musical foundation in pitch recognition, steady beat and rhythm patterns; builds a music repertoire based on classical, folk and Suzuki music examples; and introduces children to instrument options for future study. Through singing, creative movement, focused listening and playing simple instruments, your child develops fine and gross motor skills, the ear and the ability to concentrate—all essential for success in the Suzuki Academy.
ENROLLMENT: One or both semesters
TUITION: $140 per 8-class semester (biweekly)
NEW! ▶ PERFORMANCE CLASS FOR SUZUKI STUDENTS

Saturdays, 3:00 p.m.: October 1, November 5, February 4, March 3
Designed to help prepare Suzuki students for formal solo recitals, these one-time classes provide opportunities for students to perform for each other with an accompanist and receive feedback from teachers. Students should sign up for each class date individually by contacting Jessica Hoffman at least one month in advance. Class size is limited and participation is on a first-come, first-served basis. Participation in a performance class may be counted as a regular lesson or make-up lesson at the discretion of the private teacher.

Tuition for the Wilmington Branch Suzuki Academy includes private study, mandatory weekly group classes, student recital participation (including piano accompaniment fees), Suzuki Academy workshops and events, Suzuki Class for New Parents and elective participation in applicable ensembles.
