MUSIC THERAPY: Access for all

Awarded the City of Wilmington’s ACCESS Award (acknowledging individuals or organizations whose efforts increase ACCESS to people living with disabilities, thus enabling them to live rich and rewarding lives), The Music School of Delaware provides individual and group programs designed for children and adults with a variety of special needs. The school works closely with students and caregivers to identify students’ needs and make the best possible placements, while experienced music therapists help students experience positive emotional release and achieve targeted goals in a flexible, supportive environment.

INDIVIDUAL MUSIC THERAPY SESSIONS

By arrangement through the Registrar
One-on-one music therapy works to develop targeted perceptual, language, cognitive, social or motor skills for each student. Sessions with a trained music therapist include a combination of improvisational and structured activities, including singing, moving to music, playing musical instruments and doing listening activities.
ENROLLMENT: Entire academic year (four 9-week quarters)

MUSICAL MEMORY LANE
Adults with Alzheimer’s disease (Joseph Reilly)
By special arrangement through the Executive Director
Music therapy can help adults with Alzheimer’s disease maintain optimal cognitive awareness and allow for a positive, powerful emotional release. Activities range from singing familiar songs to improvising melodies using innovative musical instruments. No prior musical experience is necessary. Classes are offered on-site at adult care facilities by special arrangement.
