(WILMINGTON, DEL.) April 22, 2010—The Music School of Delaware will “fill The Grand” with music at its 85th Anniversary Celebration & Showcase on June 3, 2010. Two hundred and fifty musicians ages 6 to 90, many of Delaware’s finest student and amateur musicians, will take center stage in this anniversary spectacular.

Honorary Hosts Senator & Mrs. Thomas R. Carper, Barbara Govatos & Julian Rodescu and Nancy Josephson & David Bromberg invite Music School friends, supporters and all of Delaware to attend this special event and celebrate the Music School's rich history as one of Delaware's original arts organizations.

“This is an exciting and rare opportunity to present a program featuring the Music School’s youth and adult ensembles in Delaware’s premier concert venue,” says President & CEO Kate M. Ransom. “We look forward to celebrating this milestone anniversary with our students, families, supporters and community members.”

The Music School’s large youth and adult chamber, choral and orchestral ensembles including the Suzuki Academy, Delaware Youth Orchestra, Delaware Youth Symphony, Wilmington Community Orchestra, Wilmington Youth Chorale, Delaware Children’s Chorus, Select Choral Ensemble and Delaware Women’s Chorus will perform jointly, individually and side-by-side. This fast-paced and exciting program format creates a one-of-a-kind music experience for the concertgoer.

The concert will feature exciting, compelling and challenging repertoire – from classical favorites to contemporary works. The first half of the concert will highlight the Music School’s distinguished choral ensembles performing works by well-known contemporary composers including Z. Randall Stroope, Eleanor Daley, Mary Goetze and the Music School’s own vocal/choral department head Michael Larkin. Following the intermission, the Music School’s accomplished orchestral ensembles will perform works by Merle J. Isaac, Antonio Vivaldi, Camille Saint-Saëns and Ludwig van Beethoven, as well as a joint performance of Clare Grundman’s “Second American Folk Rhapsody.” The program will close with a combined performance by all orchestral and choral ensembles of John Rutter’s “Look at the World” and Sy Miller & Jill Jackson’s “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”
